Spring's Hottest Trends Review

Filed under:

September was a looong time ago, and ages ago in the fashion world, so don't feel bad if you've already forgotten what the hot trends are. We're bringing you a full review on what's hot for this spring to jog your memory.

1. High-Waists and Wide Legs
Sounds passé but it's really in right now and we're loving the '70s inspiration. If you were a skinny-jean hater, or just want to change it up, now's your chance. Wide legs and high waists look especially great with wedge heels and a tucked-in top.

Flare Leg Stella Jean, $69.90 | Gap Wide Leg Jeans, $69.50 | Linen Trouser Pants, $69.50

2. Citrus Hues
Spring and summer are all about bright and we saw tons of citrus hues on the runway in September. They come in basic and go all the way to neon, making it really easy to up your cheeriness in your own personal way.

Daisy Jacquard Dress, $74.99 | Sheer Button-Down, $65 | Seychelles Sandal, $67.90

3. Something Sheer
The gauzy stuff was all over the Fashion Week runways way back in September. We love the idea behind sheer tops, dresses, etc. but you have to be careful. Steer clear of the more promiscuous options, which can be a bit inappropriate for most occasions. The solution is to layer either under or over the sheer item.

4. Crop Tops
Remember when showing your midriff was really in? Well, get ready to for a lot of crop tops in stores. We suggest to use these as layering tools--maybe throw a crop top over a tighter tank--or tuck into into a high-wasted pencil skirt. We especially love this look with high-waisted wide legs.

BCBGMAXAZRIA Crop, $71.82 | 'Harmonica' Crop, $39.90 | Marciano Crop Top, $54

5. Japanese Inspiration
Japanese-inspired items are huge this spring. Try pieces like obi belts, kimono-like coats and satiny pieces in festive blues and pinks. Try to limit your outfit to one Japanese-inspired piece so you don't look to costume-y.

Beige Kimono Sleeve Top, $64 | Lily White Jacket, $34 | Target Kimono Dress, $24.99

6. Neutrals
This trends is probably the easiest one to wear and incorporate into your everyday. There is something incredibly sophisticated and chic about donning neutrals whether they be on your feet, your jacket or a dress. If you're a color lover, or worry about getting washed out, you can pair a neutral with almost any other hue and you will look great.

Belted Shirt Dress, $29.99 | Gentry Platform Sandal, $52.50 | Halogen Blouse, $33.90

7. Preppy Accessories
Donning preppy accessories doesn't make you preppy per se. There is a fantastic vintage feel created when adding a few touches of prep either in your shoes, your watch, or your top. When paired with your regular style, preppy pieces can really take your originality up a notch or two.

Sugar Linkin Park Wedge, $24.72 | Tommy Hilfiger Bag, $38 | Madewell Plaid Scarf, $50

8. Bold and Perky Prints
We're not saying that monochromatic tones are out, we're simply saying that patterns, bold and funky, are in. You are allowed to mix patterns now--in fact, it's encouraged-the key is to stick to the same color scheme so you don't accidentally look like a crazy person. Even if you're not mixing and matching, throwing on a bold printed dress or top does the trick.

Print Cowlneck Dress, $59.95 | Ikat Ballerina Skirt, $39.90 | Quintessential Tank, $48

9. The 60's
The 60's is back in a big way and seemingly in all the best ways. Adorable bib collars, polka dots, long sleeve but short dresses, floral patterns, wide-leg jeans--it's all back on the racks. The ultra-feminity, but cool vibe of 60's garb is a great way to welcome spring.

Cali Retro Dress, $24.98 | ASOS 60's Shift Dress, $35.86 | Polka Dot Espadrille, $16.99

10. Comfort
So long, bandage dresses! Arrivederci, can't-sit-down short-shorts! We're talking billowy blouses, wider legs (you don't always need to squeeze yourself into skinny jeans), tunic dresses and more, all totally comfortable but not lacking in the cute department one bit.

Trouvé Draped Tee, $38 | DKNY Drapey Shorts, $26.55 | Pleione Lace Chiffon Top, $58
