What you need: You will need paper plates.

How to play: Divide the children up into teams of four or more. Each team will get two fewer plates than the number of teammates. Establish the "pond" area. It should be about 20-30 feet from one side to the other. The object of this race is to get across the "pond" by stepping only on the "lily pads" or plates.

The rules: At the starting signal, each team begins setting out their plates across the "pond" area. Since they are using 9-inch plates, a bit of leniency should be practiced as far as stepping only on the plates. At least half of the players' foot must be on the plate. Each team must come up with a strategy for passing the plates back and forth in order to get all teammates across the span.

How to win: The first team to get all of its members across the "pond" area is the winning team.

What else you need to know: In a variation of this game, every 30-45 seconds, a moderator will take one plate from the team. Whoever is on that plate must go back to the beginning, and the team has to come up with a strategy to get that person back with the team.
